Prayer Fundamentals

Leadership: There should be a ministry-approved leader at any prayer service. This leader and their assistants must honor the mandate and order determined by their own leadership. These leaders must be respected by all in attendance. This allows order to be established and followed so that the prayer focus can be maintained and unified (Psalm 133).

After all, whatever decision the leader makes, (right or wrong), they must answer to God and their leadership. They should be willing and equipped to allow others to pray according to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Remember, the Holy Spirit will always exalt the Person, life and ministry of Jesus Christ (John 14:26). He helps us to pray our God’s will and purpose into the earth (Romans 8:26). He does not distract, hinder or draw attention to flesh. He is the Chief Strategist.

Approaching God: Throughout the Scripture, we are taught how to approach God. We need not be fearful or without understanding. Below are some guidelines. Knowing we have done the things that please God purges our conscience and clears our spirit for His response.

Pattern of Prayer Service:

† Prayer of Acknowledgment (Honor, Praise, Worship)
† Prayer of Consecration/Submission (a time of repentance, and yielding our desires to His will)
† Time of sharing what God is speaking to the hearts of 2 or 3 predetermined (authorized) leaders
† Invite the Holy Spirit to pray the Father’s will (Pray in the Spirit with understanding and in tongues.  Do not allow this to be an area of contention. Pray and allow the Holy Spirit to do as HE pleases.

Agree with our God’s Word: Whatever the Holy Spirit does or says will always align with the Scripture and the character, nature, and actions of Jesus Christ, who is the Expressed Image of our Heavenly Father)

† Pray as instructed by Scripture (see below)
† Pray until a release comes, this release is generally evidenced by an anointing of peace, joy and/or faith that settles the spirits of those in prayer.
† Prayer of Thanksgiving
† Prayer of protection and dismissal
† Prayer should be led by one individual at a time.

Having one person lead the prayer, and praying the promises of God allows others to more freely add their agreement, without confusion. Praying His promises in faith, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, will produce our God’s apostolic and prophetic authority and power (Godly kingdom building, demonic stronghold destroying).

WHY WE PRAY THE WORD OF GODBelievers should absolutely pray according to God’s Word (1 Timothy 2:1-4, Psalms 122:6). We pray for all men (to include the unsaved), for all in authority,  the Church, for Israel, and for other things as directed by the Holy Spirit.

When we petition our God, we should do so according to His promises. We petition God for those things that are ours according to the “Will and Testament, the Scripture” left to us as an inheritance from Jesus Christ. He promised if we pray according to the “Will of God”, we can be sure we have what we ask for (1 John 5:14-15). The Holy Spirit who knows the heart of humans and the mind of God helps us pray effectively (Romans 8:26-27)!

Isaiah 43:26 (NKJV) Put Me in remembrance; let us contend together. State your case, that you may be acquitted.

We have been declared “not guilty” because Jesus paid the wages of sin for all mankind by suffering and dying for sin He did not commit. The debt satan created by murdering Jesus can never be repaid, even with the redemption of all who accept His sacrifice as our own. We have favor with God, by the work and grace (Loving help to be and do the impossible) of Christ, and are able to boldly approach Him and remind Him of His promises left to us in Jesus’ Will (the Word, the Scripture). Our God has confirmed with an oath to fulfill His promises to us (Hebrews 4:16 and 6:17-18). Pray His Word, by His Holy Spirit!

WHAT CORPORATE PRAYER IS NOT:  Watchmen Prayer should be focused and purposeful. The mandate for gathering is not deliverance or other works of the ministry. We pray for the manifestation of healing and deliverance; but there must be specific time set aside with prayer as the singular focus. If someone has a particular prayer need, it should be assigned to particular persons and/or addressed apart from the prayer gathering. The time set aside for corporate prayer is honored by God and should be honored by all in attendance.

Corporate watchman prayer is targeted prayer.

Great and powerful things are accomplished through prayer. We must have faith in our God and allow Him to show us who He is, and who we are in Him!
