Our Need for Spiritual Common Sense

As we address our need for our God’s spiritual common sense, the Gospel of Jesus Christ must be the foundation upon which we build; no other foundation is acceptable to our God. Therefore, as we deal with the “Take Heeds” and spiritual foolishness, the following must be repeated. The Gospel, the Good News, the Message of all our Heavenly Father wrought in Jesus Christ contains the fullness of the knowledge, understanding, wisdom, nature, character, power, and authority of our God (Colossians 2:9). It is the foundation upon spiritual common sense is built!

In His love, our Heavenly Father sent His Word (made human) Jesus (Author and Finisher of our faith walk):

(1) As the “proper” sinless/perfect sacrifice for fallen humanity
1 Peter 1:18-21 (KJV) 18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21 Who by Him do believe in God,that raised Him up from the dead, and gave Him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

(2) As His Living Tutorial, who walked out the Scripture, explaining who He is, and exhibiting His kingdom (His Rulership and Mastery of all things)
Hebrews 1:3 (NIV) The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful Word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

(3) As humanities’ Living Standard, through Whom He reveals and offers His heart, plan, purpose, power, and methodology for all who choose believe and follow Him.
2 Corinthians 3:18 (KJV) But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Romans 8:29 (AMP) For those whom He foreknew, and loved, and chose beforehand, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, and ultimately share in His complete sanctification, so that He would be the firstborn, the most beloved, and honored among many believers.

Our Heavenly Father has revealed His heart, mind, and will in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He invested all He is in Jesus Christ to win and restore humanity to Himself. In light of these truths, spiritual common sense is taking all that Jesus teaches to heart. If we know that Jesus spoke as He heard our Heavenly Father speak, (as did holy men of old who wrote the Scripture), spiritual common sense would have us know how important every word that our God speaks is to the development, protection, and provision for our lives (John 5:19; 12:47; 14:10; 2 Peter 1:21; 2 Timothy 3:16-17).

Luke 4:4 (KJV) Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word of God.”

It is by His Hand and grace alone that we receive our daily portion. Spiritual common sense is esteeming His Word, His Teaching above all things created, whether human, spirit, or thing.

Jesus warns us to be mindful of what we hear and choose to believe or TAKE TO HEART (Proverbs 4:23). We live our lives out of what we choose to believe, to the measure that we believe it (Mark 4:23-25).

I attended a non-denominational church for a season, wherein the pastor gave an elaborate sermon, stating that all judgment (for the believer) was past, that God would not judge us at all, again. As I watched him pick out Scripture to accommodate his teaching and speak things unconfirmed in the Scripture, as he added and took away from them, I considered the things.

(1) I did not discern the presence or activity of the Holy Spirit in any of the services or gatherings at the ministry.

(2) I did discern spiritual ignorance, which explained the carnality (disregard for the holy, fornication, cohabitation…) of the membership, and the disturbing level of pride and arrogance in the “main” leaders

Our God’s spiritual common sense let me know the source of the problem was the lack of revelation knowledge of our God (our Heavenly Father, His Word (Scripture/Jesus), and His Holy Spirit).
Proverbs 29:18 (NIV) Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.

This lack of knowledge and spiritual common sense (ignorance/unrenewed minds) about our God, and His Son (King Jesus), (whether by choice or lack of proper teaching) prevented the regeneration and transformation of the hearts, minds, and lives of these church members, and they had little conscience or conviction about doing what was right in their own eyes (Judges 17:6)! The fallen world and satan uses these opportunities to destroy God’s people; therefore, our God does not overlook His people being taught improperly or untaught (James 3:1; Hosea 4:6).

Woe be unto Christian leaders, teachers, and instructors who teach and preach their own minds (from their own understanding) the traditions of man and the doctrine of devils because they have taken up ministry as a profession (to earn money or gain influence) rather than a genuine call (Proverbs 3:5-6; 1 Peter 5:2; 2 Peter 1:2-10).

Woe be unto Christian leaders, teachers, and instructors who have failed to embrace God’s conviction and Truth when He sends it. (He does, of course!) Being puffed up by their own knowledge and understanding, they become blind to our God’s Truth (1 Corinthians 1:25; 1 Corinthians 8:1b). They lead others who are blind and all end up in a ditch, shipwrecked, or being used of the devil to kill, steal, and destroy in the lives of others (2 Timothy 4:2-4; Matthew 15:14).

It is true that all woeful judgment is past for those who have made the final decision to live for God, honor His Word, and follow after His Holy Spirit (character and behavior). This pastor; however, taught that Jesus’ sacrifice at Calvary ended all judgment for believers, without the expressed need for genuine repentance, transformation, regeneration, sanctification… As a result, I watched people who believed this erroneous doctrine, dance and sing in church, then commit fornication, adultery, theft and the like, seemingly without conscience. The Scripture provides clear instruction in Ephesians 5:1-12 (KJV):

1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour. 3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. 5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them. 8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: 9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) 10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. 12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

Spiritual common sense helps me understand that the wayward in this ministry believed God exists; however, had not made Him Lord of their lives, because they saw no reason to do so. Spiritual common sense reveals, since they believe there were no future consequences for their behaviors, they freely attempt to use the grace of God as a cloak for sin (1 Peter 2:16)!

Spiritual common sense reveals such teachings contribute to weak believers’ backsliding and falling away from the faith, as they pursue the pleasures of the flesh. Some eventually turn away from God altogether, and leave the household of faith:
1 John 3:9 (NLT) Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God.

Spiritual common sense reveals genuine belief or faith in our God goes hand-in-hand with obedience to His teachings. Jesus asked “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” The fruit or evidence of Jesus’ Lordship in a life is obedience to our Heavenly Father’s instruction and following Christ’s lead (Luke 6:43-46).

The teaching that all judgment for the believers (after the sacrifice of Jesus Christ) is revealed as spiritual foolishness in light of the self-confirming Scripture. Our Heavenly Father (the Only Righteous Judge) gave the following Scripture to humanity AFTER the life, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Romans 14:8-12 (KJV) 8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s. 9 For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that He might be Lord both of the dead and living. 10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. 12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

2 Corinthians 5:10 (KJV) 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

1 Corinthians 3:13-15 (KJV) 13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. 14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

Revelation 22:12 (KJV) Behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

Watchmen all over the world, as we seek our God’s face (His heart and mind, with every attribute), let us be faithful to ask our God for His opinion. When everything settles, our God’s perspective is the only one that truly matters. Our God’s Word (Scripture/Jesus) IS the revelation of His perspective (James 1:5).

We, Your children lift our hearts to You. Purge all unsoundness from our hearts; You alone can settle us, and place us on the only firm foundation, which is Your Truth. We open our hearts and lives to You without fear or shame, knowing You desire and know what is best for each of us.

As we lay our lives on the altar of Your love, breathe afresh upon us. Open our understanding even the more to the Scripture. Grant us greater and clearer revelation of our Champion and soon coming King Jesus Christ. Anoint us unto sensitivity to see and hear Your Precious Holy Spirit at work, in and around us. We desire Your will above all else.

Do all that is in Your heart, today and every day. Your will be done; Your kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven. We wait upon You; thank You for Your strength as we wait. We fully expect to see Your love, Your Word, and Your power at work among us. Thank You in advance for all You do. We decree and declare all we have asked, as done, for IT IS WRITTEN! In Jesus name we pray; amen, amen, and amen.
