Back to Spiritual Common Sense

The spiritual common sense of our God has the power to save, keep, and deliver all who apply His Truth.  We must always allow His Word to have the final say.

Defining Spiritual Common Sense
Consider the following definitions for the term common sense: (1) sound judgment in practical matters, (2) reasonable or understandable judgment, (3) discerning, (4) wisdom, (5) insight, perception (capacity for comprehension), (6) perspicacity (mental vision) and (7) practicality (Merriam Webster, 2018).

The Scripture uses the term prudence (Ephesians 1:8), which translates the understanding, knowledge, and holy love of the will of God.  Think about this definition. We must avoid being so spiritually deep and legalistically dogmatic that we miss the common sense of God. Who, in all that exists is more sound in judgment in practical things than God? He is the only Righteous Judge who is always reasonable, with discerning, wisdom, insight, perception, and practicality.

We must study to receive the fullness of the counsel of our God’s Word, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit in order to receive HIS Truth and understanding. We must study to receive the fullness of the counsel of our God’s Word, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit in order to receive HIS wisdom, which is HIS SPIRITUAL COMMON SENSE!

As we study (in sincerity), so that our God reveals the person and purpose of Jesus The Christ.   Our God desire that we have revelation knowledge or Absolute Truth about the heart, mind, character, will, power, and authority of our Heavenly Father. The Apostle Paul tells us not to struggle continually over the past and its hindrances; rather, we should keep Jesus The Christ as the focus and standard for over lives. As we seek to know the mind of our God, and do His will, He takes the responsibility of keeping us on point; He clarifies misconceptions and misunderstandings, IF WE ARE SPIRITUALLY MATURE AND HUMBLE ENOUGH TO ALLOW HIM TO DO SO!

Philippians 3:15-16 (NIV) All of us, then, who are (spiritually) mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. 16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.

Why is there so much doctrinal confusion circulating in the Body of Christ?
First, zeal absent of the knowledge of God opens the door for confusion. We must understand confusion does not come from God.

1 Corinthians 14:33 (KJV) God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

The seeds of doctrinal confusion we see around us are planted by satan, who uses worldly thinking, intellectualism, and fleshly lusts, desires, and pride, to hoodwink humanity into misinterpreting or twisting God’s Word, in order to present doctrine that somehow sets them above others. We must also know that our God is the Master of the author of confusion, and His Light swallows up darkness.  Hallelujah!

One Wisdom is from the world, flesh, and darkness

James 3:14-16 But if you harbor in your hearts bitter jealousy and selfish ambition, don’t boast and attack the truth with lies! 15 This wisdom is not the kind that comes down from above; on the contrary, it is worldly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where there are jealousy and selfish ambition, there will be disharmony and every foul practice.

If we are spiritually mature and humbly honest, we must acknowledge that denominations are developed because of a differing interpretation, belief, or practice. A “we are right and they are wrong” lies at the core of every recognized, self-governing branch of Christianity. The decision to develop a differing interpretation, belief, or practice is always based on some information, that someone labels God’s (supreme) wisdom. Wisdom absent of the spiritual common sense of God, like the use of His law without His Holy Spirit will always result in the foolishness of human and devilish doctrine.

The confusion resulting from the use of worldly, fleshly, and demonic wisdom divides and sets apart in the spirit of pride and self-righteousness. Competition and/or envy will always be found at the root of the strife. Its purpose is to produce and maintain disorder among our ranks, in order to hinder the progress of the Kingdom of God, while seeking to further the agenda of the kingdom of darkness. This form of division is contrary to the will of God.

People of God, when we (Christians as a group) humbly honor God (by thinking, speaking, and living life in the Spirit of His Love, Peace, and Unity), His Word and Holy Spirit convict and purge us of fleshy thinking and spiritual sin. We discover that His leadership brings us all to the same place, thinking and saying the same thing, under the same open heaven (Psalm 133).

The Greatest and only Godly Wisdom is of our Heavenly Father

James 3:17-18 But the wisdom from above is, first of all, pure, then peaceful, kind, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy, and peacemakers who sow seed in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.

While we know God is not the author of confusion, we also know He is the MASTER of its author, the devil. Our God’s wisdom would have us walk in love, while speaking the truth to one another. His wisdom would have us agree to disagree in the spirit of love, peace, and unity, while leaving Him to settle any matter of contention or offense, expose all deception, and dispense correction as needed (1 Samuel 24:12). As Philippians 3:16 tells us when we make Jesus Christ our standard, by consistently and humbly following Him, our God corrects and redirects us, leading and keeping us in His Truth (John 16:13).

Confusion and Division are NOT the same
The Enhanced Lexicon and Merriam Dictionary define confusion as instability, disorder; something made indistinct, blurry, or unrecognizable. None of these things are found in our God. Only the Light of our God’s Truth dispels the division, instability and disorder planted by satan, and brings into focus, all things indistinct, blurry, or unrecognizable.

Our God’s Truth and Wisdom brings godly division, in that it demands the hearer choose between righteous and unrighteousness; godliness and ungodliness:

Luke 12:51-53 (NLT) 51 “Do you think I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I have come to divide people against each other! 52 From now on families will be split apart, three in favor of me, and two against, or two in favor and three against. 53 Father will be divided against son and son against father; mother against daughter and daughter against mother; and mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

Our God used Moses to say it this way, “ I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live (Deuteronomy 30:19).”

He used Joshua to say, “If it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15).”

There is No Confusion with Godly Wisdom
Whether godly wisdom comes in the form of “iron sharpens iron” wisdom, the “open rebuke” wisdom, or “the crucifixion of the flesh” wisdom, it always, always leads to love, joy, peace, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, meekness, and self-control. Why? The Holy Spirit bears witness to God’s Word/wisdom at work, by producing His fruit. Whether in correction or training, our God’s wisdom always, always causes things to work together for the good of the called that love Him:

Hebrews 12:11 (AMP) For the time being no discipline brings joy, but seems sad and painful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness [right standing with God and a lifestyle and attitude that seeks conformity to God’s will and purpose].

There is No Godly Wisdom without Godly Humility
Our God does not give His “graces” to the proud, but to the humble in heart (James 4:6; Psalm 101:5):

Proverbs 22:4 (NLT) True humility and fear of the Lord (the beginning of wisdom) lead to riches, honor, and long life.

Psalm 111:10 (KJV) The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding (spiritual common sense) have all they that do His commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

Our God is Calling for True Humility and Unity
Our God says the children of the world are wiser than the children of light (Luke 16:8). It is sad that people from differing nations, cultures, and languages can work together to enjoy the Olympics, basketball and football games, but the church cannot worship together without infighting, criticizing, competing, comparing themselves to one another. There is none righteous but God, and there are some matters that will not be settled until we stand before Him. We all must to accept the eternal Truth that our God is wiser and stronger than we are, and more than capable of getting us all on the same note and sheet of spiritual music:

Psalm 37:23 (AMP) The steps of a good and righteous man are directed and established by the Lord. He delights in his way and blesses his path.

Godly wisdom and spiritual common sense are available to us for the asking (James 1:5). It would be of great benefit for us to ask our God for His insight and opinion rather that foolishly depending on our own limited sin-tainted understanding. Until we do so individually and corporately, ungodly divisions will continue because of worldly, fleshly, and demonic wisdom.

We thank You for Your giving love. You desire that we come behind in no good gift. You desire that we prosper and be in health, as our souls prosper. You withhold no good thing from us. Thank You for Your wisdom, for Your spiritual common sense. Thank You for empowering us to know Your Truth from the lies of the world, the flesh, and the devil. The entrance of Your Word in our hearts and mind yields the light of Your understanding in our lives.

Thank You for Your full counsel. Thank You for silencing the arguments over doctrine that creates the walls and strongholds that divide us. Thank You for breathing on us again, opening our understanding to the Scriptures, to Jesus Christ, and to Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for bringing order and stability, clarity and understanding of Your heart and mind. You have promised the day will come when we will all know You and Your Word. Do all that is in Your heart. We watch for You with earnest expectation of Your glory being revealed.

We pray this prayer in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. We believe we receive as we pray, because we pray according to Your will; therefore we declare, IT IS SO! Amen, amen, and amen!
